Healthy Schools Statement
Our school is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. We believe that wellbeing and positive health choices are fundamental to pupils’ happiness, academic success and lifelong development.
We strive to create an environment where children are encouraged, supported and empowered to make healthy choices that contribute to their physical, emotional and social wellbeing. Being healthy encompasses nutrition, physical activity, emotional resilience, positive relationships and safety in all aspects of school life.
Our Healthy Schools approach includes:
1. Promoting Healthy Eating
-
We ensure that school meals provide a nutritionally balanced diet, meeting recognised healthy school standards, with options to meet diverse dietary needs including vegetarian and Halal choices.
-
Our pupils have access to salad bars, balanced lunch options and hydration, encouraging good eating habits.
-
Packed lunches brought from home are encouraged to be healthy, and we provide guidance for families on nutritious choices.
2. Encouraging Physical Activity
-
Physical activity is promoted through a comprehensive PE curriculum, extra-curricular sports clubs, outdoor learning opportunities such as forest school and active play at break and lunch times.
-
We aim to ensure every child has regular opportunities to be active and enjoy being physically fit.
3. Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
-
Pupils are supported to develop social and emotional skills as part of our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) programme, where they learn about rights, responsibilities, resilience, respect and positive relationships.
-
We encourage pupils to care for one another, build confidence, and engage in a positive school community.
4. Healthy School Policies
We maintain a range of policies that uphold and protect the health and wellbeing of pupils, including but not limited to:
-
Anti-Bullying Policy
-
Sex and Relationships Education (RSHE) Policy
-
Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
-
Special Educational Needs Policy
-
Medical Needs Policy
These policies ensure safe, inclusive and supportive learning for all.
5. Smoke-Free and Safe Environment
-
Our school operates as a smoke-free zone to protect the health of pupils, staff and visitors.
6. Whole-School Wellbeing Ethos
-
We understand that happy, healthy pupils are more able to learn, contribute and thrive, and we work collaboratively with families, staff and our wider community to support children’s wellbeing.
