The Beeches Primary School

    Year 1

    Year 1 Production

Year 1 had a very busy term this term practising their performance 'Billy No Buzz.'

It was a play that made many links to PSHE and to our school core values of working in collaboration with others, caring for one another and being resilient.

A big thank you to all the parents who came to watch we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

    Work from Home

    Reading Cafes

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Family Cafe. Children were all keen to show their parents their amazing reading in our guided reading session. Children really enjoyed working alongside their parents on a range of reading activities. Here are some of our pictures.

Year 1's visit from Wood Green Animal Shelter.

As part of our 'Paws, Claws and Whiskers' topic this term Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Wood Green Animal Shelter. Jenny from Wood Green taught us how to look after and care for pets.

We met Woody the dog and he taught us how to approach and handle dogs safely.

See some of our recent photos.

The children have settled in well and the transition from Reception to Year 1 has been smooth. The atmosphere in all classes has been a positive and happy one.

This term the children have enjoyed the Topic ‘Memory Box.’ There has been a real buzz of excitement from the children, as they remember their early life.

The children visited St Mark’s Church and were excited to learn about Harvest. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to our Food Bank collection.

    How to help at home:

    • Reading with your child at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes - enjoy reading with them and they will want to read more.
    • Visit the local library to borrow new and exciting books as well as enjoy their activity days.
    • In maths we are exploring shapes as well as counting daily and number writing. Support this at home playing fun games with your child such as hunt the number and look for shapes in the local community.
    • In Literacy we have listened to the story, My Grandma went to Market.’ Also we have been learning how to write postcards. Please discuss this with your child.

    • Explore Phonics phases 2-5 online playing games on and listening to the songs on Youtube. This will support your child's learning in readiness for their Phonics test in 2017.

    Last Year

This term the children have been learning about different types of animals, their habitats and how to care for them. (Topic: Paws, Claws and Whiskers) I know the children and teachers have had a purrrr-fect time, with lots of roarrrring fun!

We visited Wood Green Animal Shelter and had a many hands-on experiences. We made treat parcels for dogs and rabbits. Also we discovered a lot about caring for various types of animals, like rodents and goats. Some lovely recounts were written when we returned to school.

The children invited into school Mr Smith’s dogs. It was great fun meeting Barney and Purdie. We learnt how to care for the dogs, and asked some interesting questions. Roleplay in the Year 1 Vet and Pet Shop was an additional positive experience.
